In a remarkable display of service and dedication, a 15-member mission team recently returned from Costa Rica after completing an extraordinary renovation project. Led by Josh Heiland, this unique construction-focused team, comprising volunteers from Tennessee and Florida, accomplished what seemed impossible in just four days.
Their mission centered on renovating our first pregnancy center in Tarcoles, Costa Rica. The transformation was nothing short of remarkable. Working tirelessly, the team tackled multiple renovation tasks simultaneously: installing a new roof, completely remodeling the bathroom, refreshing both interior and exterior walls with fresh paint, undertaking extensive landscaping work, and repainting the entrance gate. The result? A facility that looks and feels completely renewed, standing as a beacon of hope in the community.
But the impact of this mission trip extended far beyond physical renovation. During the same week, Jen Taylor, the Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean, visited to familiarize herself with our growing network of pregnancy centers in Costa Rica. Alongside our team, Jen toured four different centers located in Tarcoles, Jaco, Atenas, and Parrita, meeting with local leaders including Roxana, our dedicated country director.
The highlight of the week was an inspiring conference that brought together volunteers from our extensive network of pregnancy centers. Currently, we operate 20 centers throughout Costa Rica, with two more on the horizon. The conference served as a powerful platform for connection and encouragement, featuring presentations from both Jen and our team. Perhaps most moving were the testimonies from individual center directors, who shared through PowerPoint presentations the incredible work God is doing in their respective communities.
This gathering proved to be more than just a meeting – it was a time of spiritual refreshment, mutual encouragement, and strengthening of bonds among those dedicated to this vital ministry. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by volunteers from across the country demonstrated the deep impact these centers have in their communities.
The success of this mission exemplifies what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared purpose. The construction team’s efficiency and dedication, combined with the ongoing commitment of our local directors and volunteers, created a perfect symphony of service. Their work not only improved the physical facility but also strengthened the entire network of pregnancy centers across Costa Rica.
As we reflect on this transformative week, we’re filled with gratitude – for Roxana’s leadership as country director, for each center director’s unwavering commitment, for the tireless work of our volunteers, and for the construction team’s remarkable contribution. Their collective efforts have not only enhanced our physical presence in Tarcoles but have also reinforced the foundation of our ministry throughout Costa Rica.
This mission trip stands as a powerful testimony to what God’s people can achieve when they come together in service. The renovated center in Tarcoles will continue to serve as a visible reminder of this transformative week and the ongoing impact of our ministry in Costa Rica.
